Asper was selected to conduct a market systems analysis of the construction sector in Myanmar with a focus on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). The objective of this assignment were to assess drivers and constraints for OSH improvements in the sector and identify intervention models to leverage change.

 

The assessment pays specific attention to understanding the vulnerability profiles of workers by sex, as relevant, and design gender-sensitive intervention models to address the needs of vulnerable groups, including migrants, young workers, and temporary workers.

 

The assessments and dissemination activities informs the development of the sectorial regulations, promote the implementation of strategic compliance plans to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of inspection practices and identify additional specific intervention models.

 

The assessment pays special attention to hazards and risks commonly found in the construction sector. These include fall from height (with high fatality rates), falling objects, slips and trips, musculoskeletal disorders, nail punctures and exposure to hazardous substances such as asbestos.
