Myanmar

In its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) submitted in 2015 at the COP 21, the Myanmar government committed to produce, for each forest district, a 10-years management plan intending to decrease deforestation rate, Myanmar government has then recognized the need to restore forest cover to meet the country’s Forestry reform.

The French Agency for Development (AFD) intends to contribute to this objective through the  project “Supporting the transition of the forestry sector in Myanmar”. AFD has selected Asper to conduct the feasibility study for this project.

The specific objectives of the project include:

  • Strengthening the governance and the transparency of the forest sector and the sustainable management of Myanmar’s forests and mangroves;
  • Improving the business environment and sustainable management of forest (Community Forestry enterprises, reserved forest, protected public forest and private forest) through an integrated landscape approach aligned with the Myanmar Reforestation and Rehabilitation Programme;
  • Developing nature-based solutions for a sustainable management of mangroves.
